OUR Croydon is a social enterprise set up to tackle the housing crisis in the UK, and in particular the ever increasing problem of a lack of affordable housing and unmet demand for social housing. Not only does OUR Croydon provide a sustainable solution to the housing crisis, it also provides employment, training and apprenticeship opportunities to the local community.
OUR Croydon’s work is aimed at landlords and homeowners with run-down, empty homes, who seek to bring them back into use for rental within the social housing sector. OUR Croydon is the ethical choice for home owners who don’t know what to do with an empty house, or don’t have the cash available to renovate them to a liveable standard. OUR Croydon is able to offer landlords and homeowners thousands of pounds worth of free renovation thanks to funding and grant schemes available. This in turn provides employment and training to people and new affordable homes to those who need it most.
Having already run a successful project in the South East, restoring a number of homes and bringing them into use as affordable housing, OUR Croydon wanted to increase the number of empty and run-down homes it was able to bring back life and sought The Enterprise Cube’s help with their funding strategy. The Enterprise Cube was able to secure funding to expand OUR Croydon’s work.
Thanks to this, OUR Croydon will soon be embarking on one its largest projects to date, restoring at least 22 empty homes in the Croydon area over the coming year. The current project will see homeless individuals and apprentices work on the properties alongside a team expert tradesman turning these unused buildings back into homes. The project will enable them to learn new skills, gain valuable work experience and provide much needed homes for the most disadvantaged in our communities.
