Striver makes the Metro

We were thrilled this week to see one of our Strivers, Jone Da Cruz, make it into the Metro paper in London. Jone, who is on our current Strive programme at our St. Paul’s Hub, worked under the apprenticeship scheme at the Woodberry Down development, and then went on to complete a course to become a qualified gas engineer and plumber, after moving to London from Portugal. He decided he wanted to start his own business and set up JDC Plumbing to utilise his new skills. This week is National Apprenticeship Week, and we’re excited that the Metro chose to profile Hackney resident Jone as one of their case studies which celebrates this.

With the help of the Strive programme and his first business plan, Jone is feeling confident about his new business venture, and is in the process of applying for loans to get up and running. Of starting his own business and Strive, Jone says ‘the course has been really useful and fun, especially when it comes to writing a business plan, something I had never attempted before, but which I need in order to secure a loan’.

We predict great things for Jone – watch this space for his upcoming website, www.jdcplumbing.co.uk, to see how Jone gets on.
