Grassroots Enterprise

SPREADING THE NEWS

A Growing Movement

Grassroots entrepreneurs are having an incredible, almost immeasurable, impact
on the lives of so many people and everyday more and more people are getting involved.

At the CUBE, we’re really not into politics or lobbying, but we are at the coal face of a growing movement of grassroots entrepreneurs. So using our unique position, we help to champion all the incredible things that happen when people start businesses at a grassroots level.

There’s three main things we like to champion;

Championing grassroots impact

We are always working to better understand the impact of grassroots enterprise on entrepreneurs, their customers, suppliers, employees, neighbours, friends, families and communities.

CHAMPIONING
SUPPORT FOR ENTERPRISE

We are always meeting other fantastic projects, staff and volunteers out there supporting grassroots entrepreneurs so we share all the best practice in support with all our community development friends.

CHAMPIONING ENTREPRENEURS

We really struggle to talk about the all of the amazing entrepreneurs we meet, but you’ll never meet us without us talking about at least one of our striving stars and their incredible achievements.

ALL UNDER ONE BANNER

We created Grassroots Enterprise as an ongoing campaign to spread the word about the impact that entrepreneurs and their
supporters are having at the grassroots. Under this banner our rolling campaign talks about all things grassroots enterprise –
from resident start-ups right through to community social enterprises like community incubators.

Our Grassroots Enterprise campaign comes in many forms but our most popular ones are
our Workshops, Conferences or Enterprise Projects.

TALKING TO SUPPORTERS

TALKING TO SUPPORTERS

Our campaign work to offer community development professionals a space to share and learn.

TALKING TO THE PUBLIC

TALKING TO THE PUBLIC

Our high-street events and pop-ups are a great way for us about enterprise to talk to the public.

TALKING ABOUT ENTREPRENEURS

TALKING ABOUT ENTREPRENEURS

They are the heart of our Grassroots Enterprise movement, so we love talking about their successes.

TALKING TO SUPPORTERS

TALKING TO SUPPORTERS

Since our first annual conference in 2013,
we’ve been talking about enterprise a little differently.
So expect workshops run by residents, pop-up marketplaces, grassroots caterers
and hundreds of committed entrepreneurs and development professionals.

A CONFERENCE DONE DIFFERENTLY

Grassroots Enterprise, the conference, is a housing conference but done a little differently.

You’ll find 120 housing staff who have been joined by 80 resident entrepreneurs and everyone is here to help create more grassroots enterprises. You’ll find the exhibition space replaced with a marketplace packed full of resident entrepreneurs promoting their businesses. You’ll find every speaker has real first-hand experience of grassroots enterprise and practical advice on what works and what doesn’t.

You’ll find the answers you’re after, and if not you’ll find the CUBE team on hand and happy to help.

Each year’s conference focuses on several relevant themes.  Past conferences have focused on topics such as; Going Digital in Supporting Enterprise, Grassroots Impact, Grassroots Business Hubs, Training at the Grassroots, and Demonstrating Need for Enterprise.  We’ve had some great discussions at our conference, so we’re looking forward to picking the topics for our next event.

WORKSHOPS DONE DIFFERENTLY

Conferences aren’t all that we do to share good practice for resident enterprise, we’ve also worked with HACT, GUAC and others to share the experiences of all the community development professionals we meet.

We offer some free or subsidised training under our Grassroots Enterprise campaign, to housing associations, local councils and charity staff to help them support enterprise better.  At these days we’ve talked to hundreds of professionals over the years – helping them to share their own experiences and adding our own for good measure.

We’ve seen new models taken up, old ones put right and many government policies come and go, but everyday has renewed our passion for working with organisations committed to their communities in the way housing associations, charities and local authorities are.  So if you need your passion renewed or some new answers to old problems, look out for the latest Grassroots Enterprise workshop.

HIGH-STREET EVENTS

HIGH-STREET EVENTS

We just love the world of grassroots enterprise, and we’re not alone.
From Dragon’s Den to the excitement of street food festivals, the nation is mad about ‘the little guy’ (or ‘gal’)
who get’s out there and starts their own business.
Our high-street events are a way for the public to share in the excitement of enterprise,
and for start-ups to promote themselves while inspiring the next start-up to give it a go.

HIGH-STREET EVENTS

Our events, pop-ups and roadshows are all a vital part of spreading the word of enterprise to the public, and so they are a key part of our ongoing Grassroots Enterprise campaign.

So you’ll find our pop-ups, roadshows and events across the UK, championing grassroots entrepreneurs and offering them some high street exposure to get those first sales and showcase their business to the public.

CHAMPIONING ENTREPRENEURS

CHAMPIONING ENTREPRENEURS

Right from our very first project it was clear who the stars of the show were.
Grassroots Entrepreneurs are some of the most inspiring people you will ever meet,
but being grassroots, they often don’t get the exposure other people might.

So at Enterprise CUBE we do whatever we can to promote, introduce and highlight entrepreneurs.

CHAMPIONING
RESIDENTS

BUSINESS AWARDS Hundreds of start-ups have been involved in training delivered by the Enterprise CUBE’s team, with an ever expanding group of Strivers. So we think its important this growing community had away to recognise those who’ve excelled and have gone on to inspire others. That’s why we created our annual business awards. The community nominate their favourite start-ups which are put to a panel of experts to select an overall winner in 6 categories.

GRASSROOTS MARKETPLACES Whenever we’re championing grassroots enterprise we make sure there is also space in these inspiring and uplifting days for  a marketplace or exhibition space, where enterprising start-ups will showcase their products and services, make sales and new contacts too.

COMING SOON… an ever expanding directory of grassroots entrepreneurs.
