Grassroots Enterprise 2013

Grassroots Enterprise 2013

The first Grassroots Enterprise conference took place yesterday, and was judged to be a real success the professionals and community members who attended.  There have been calls for the event to be repeated and for a Northern version of the event to take place in the future.

Over a hundred professionals and community members turned up to share ideas and learn how to support enterprise within their communities.  Fifteen speakers took to the platform during an action packed day in which housing associations, charities and social enterprises explained various models for supporting enterprise at a grassroots level.

Our own Richard Lanning, Enterprise CUBE CIC’s Director, said, “it’s amazing to see that there are so many professionals with a passion for helping disadvantaged communities start micro and social enterprises.”  Richard is already looking to build on the success of the event in future Grassroots Enterprise events, “delegates really enjoyed meeting our resident start-ups and we’re looking forward to building the resident marketplace in future years and having residents hosting master classes on the day.”

The conference which was supplied entirely by local, social or micro-enterprises was described as, “the best conference in housing” by a delegate that had travelled down from Leicester to attend the day.
