06 May Reading’s socially minded start ups
We were really pleased to have been back in Reading and completing a successful project in partnership with Thames Valley Housing Association and Catalyst Housing Group. Lots of the Strivers are now in a great position to push their business ideas forward to the next stage.
The Hilton Hotel was also great location for the Dragon’s Den – we all enjoyed being pampered as well as the great lunch and the Strivers really rose to the occasion when pitching their businesses.
There were a high number of business on this programme with a real sense of social purpose, looking to give back to their community as well as building a strong business, and we think Reading is very lucky to have them!
We’re looking forward to watching Pet Cuddles 101 expand and grow their services and integrate a subsidised pet sitting and pet care service for social housing residents.
Keep a look out for Bean Streets too – who are running pop up coffee shops whilst making a difference and offering training opportunities to those who’ve been homeless. A fantastic initiative that we wish all the best. Expert baristas and good vibes – what more can you ask for from your coffee break?!
If you like nattering and knitting, then Craft and Conversation provides a setting for local people to come together and take part in craft activities. It allows people to socialise and make friends in the community whilst developing new skills and building confidence.
