02 Jul Va Va Vooooom! National awards and over £100K raised for Strive Start Up
Striver Sumi Wang recently became one of the winners of this year’s Virgin Media Business VOOM 2016 competition, after pitching her businesses invention to Richard Branson and an expert panel as one of 6 finalists. She’s also raised £103,695 so far to make eFOLDI a reality!
eFOLDi is a durable, lightweight, safe and folding personal transporter, allowing you experience a variety of different options: from a battery powered electric scooter, a portable chair to a traveller’s suitcase.
Sumi Wang is the Managing Director of SunTech UK, the company behind the eFOLDi and came to Strive in 2015, after recovering from an illness. She’d had a great career in engineering, working in China, Denmark and the UK; however, the folding genius comes from her father, Jianmin Wang, who has been Chief Engineer for the Chinese Acrobat Troupe for over 30 years and has experience finding creative engineering and design solutions to all kinds of problems!
They are also the winners of the prestigious “British Invention Of The Year 2016” at The Gadget Show Live, winning the awards on 31st March 2016. Pictured below, the Gadget Show presenter Jason Bradbury is having fun riding eFOLDi and congratulating the inventor.
They’ve also won Gold medal at the Invention Competition in Beijing, China in 2015 and eFOLDi is also the winner of the grand prize of Surrey Entrepreneur Academy 2015 in the UK, helping to fund obtaining the patent to protect eFOLDI. We think Sumi and eFOLDI are definitely ones to watch and we can’t wait for the first production lines to arrive in the UK.
